Day of Diving in Maumere Bay
Bright and early in the morning before a day of diving begins for you, our guides and the crew of our ship have assembled the diving equipment according to your wishes, tucked safely on board of our diving ship. The boat ride on route to our diving site is a wonderful beginning to the day, as you can enjoy yourself in the morning sun.
Our fishing boat slowly glides through the crystal clear waters of Maumere Bay. When you lean over the edge, you will see how the boat carves its way through the waves. One can often even see the hazy coral reefs shimmering in the depths. Just the reflective surface of the water stands between us and 1200 different species of fish living in the depths of the Flores Sea.
Oftentimes on route we'll see flying fish jumping out of the water, soaring over an astonishing 20m distance before diving back in. Sometimes pilot whales become astray in our Maumere Bay, or a school of dolphins or dugongs, providing us an always interesting pause on our journey to the site. Such magnificent impressions are here for us to appreciate in the still of the ocean, to observe the natural wildlife in midst of their migration.
When we arrive north on the outskirts of the island, we come in the area where the large fish search their way through the Flores Sea. In November, enormous sperm whales and pig-head whales migrate through the bay, sometimes also to be seen in the months of July and August. Perhaps you've read this somewhere, and it's indeed the truth: whale sharks intermittently migrate past our island – maybe you will be lucky enough to take a dive with one of them, experiencing and living the dream of every diver alike.
We never know exactly what we will see on our diving excursion. We are riding on the water for only for a short time, so it's up to chance and the life in the ocean to decide which spectacular events we will witness. This is why we always go back out diving again and again. Here in Maumere Bay there are boundless unique diving attractions, each of which will take your breath away. Not only because of the various types of sharks we get to observe, like oceanic white-tip sharks, black-tip reef sharks or hammerheads. What you see here is indescribable with words. You're able to experience it for your self.
When you participate in multiple diving excursions, we guarantee that no day will be like the other. Different dive sites and days, and different seasons ensure each diving experiences to be diverse and unique, but foremost absolutely fascinating.
In the afternoon when you tiredly ride back with us, you will reflect on what you've seen, the memorable and unforgettable journey you've underwent.
We close up a day of diving in relaxed togetherness after we've arrive on land. Here we fill out our diving journals, collectively discuss our adventure, and of course, make plans for our next diving day.
